Goodreads Synopsis
There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.
Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.
More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

Review
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.
Alosa is the daughter of the ruthless Pirate King, and a notable pirate captain in her own right. As her father's heir, she's the only one he trusts to find and steal one third of an ancient hidden map. Allowing herself to be captured by her enemies, she works to escape her captors and find the map, before reaching her father, right on plan. However, as much as she can best the pirate crew, her main captor, first mate, Riden, is keeping an extremely close eye on her, and Alosa finds she doesn't mind it.
From the first few pages in Daughter of the Pirate King, I knew this was a book for me. Alosa was such a feisty and strong character, who used her knowledge, and her powers, to gain what she wants. That's not to say she's not vulnerable too, though. Because of her parentage and her upbringing, she has weaknesses, and Alosa doesn't ever allow anyone to see them. Even so, when she's with Riden, parts of her true self come out, and they both reveal aspects of themselves that they would never expect. I did work out some of the twists before the big 'reveals' but all in all, a really good YA book. Roll on book 2!
