Maddie’s not impulsive. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment—

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun…until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

Review
In Lucky in Love, Maddie is making her way through high school, hoping to get a scholarship for college, and isn't known to be impulsive, but one day she decides to buy a lottery ticket, and actually wins - $50 million. Now she doesn't have to worry about money, or student loans, and can help her family, but when everyone and their dog gets wind of her win, she's inundated with requests for loans, to hold parties, and waste the money. All of the attention is really getting to her, but at work at the local zoo, not many people realise she's the lottery winner, and she can be herself around Seth, her cute coworker. She knows she should tell Seth about it, but she doesn't want to, because she's seen how that knowledge can change how people act around her. Will it all backfire?

Now, I love Kasie's books, but this was my least favourite by far. Maddie is supposed to have her head screwed on right, planning every little thing for how and when she goes to college, especially with how her family has struggled in the past. But when she wins, it's like all her common sense goes out the window. OK, she does pay off her family's debt, and gives them some money, but then she starts wasting it on frivolous things, like expensive cars, clothes, a party on a yacht, and just becomes a wholly different, and frankly awful, person. She doesn't consider going to a financial adviser to get some guidance on how to save the money, and use it well, and I know she's only 18, but this doesn't fit with who she was before she won. The romance with Seth was okay, but I didn't enjoy the secret keeping, and didn't really see the two of them working together as a proper couple. A really disappointing book from one of my favourite authors.
