Goodreads Synopsis
Mercy Goode, is only truly good at one thing: finding mischief wherever she goes. Such as getting arrested at a murder scene with Raphael Sauvageau, a brutally handsome, ruthless smuggler with a dangerous past and a dubious future. The silver-tongued devil doesn’t deserve a lick of her confidence, but she has evidence that he’s not the killer.

But she can’t deny that he’s relentlessly wicked.

Raphael has no time for obsession. He’s an empire to run, a murder to avenge, and a plan to save his brother that is likely a suicide mission. But this clever, infuriating bluestocking who insists she’s an amateur sleuth keeps showing up where she doesn’t belong. And for some bloody reason they can’t seem to be in the same room without him yanking her into his arms and kissing her until they’re both breathless.

Power, prestige, and a staggering fortune hasn’t filled the abysmal void where Raphael’s heart should be...

Perhaps what he needs is a night with her.

Perhaps what he needs is redemption.

Perhaps what he needs is a bit of Mercy.

Review
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

After meeting the leader of the Favres gang, Mercy Goode hasn't been able to stop thinking of Raphael Sauvageau. She soon finds herself entangled in a battle even she might not be able to fight, when her friend is found murdered, and she and Raphael are discovered with the body. Both have their own reasons for why they want to discover the murdered, and the attraction between the two is soon too much to overcome. When it seems likely that a gang war is about to kick off in the East End of London, they need to use all of their wits in order to survive, and hopefully, be together.

I enjoyed the previous book in this series when I read it last year, and loved Kerrigan's Devil You Know series, so was overjoyed when I was approved for this one. Dancing With Danger is such a quick read, which hooks you in immediately - opening at a crime scene, with Mercy lambasting members of the Metropolitan Police for their shoddy work, and then being left in the back of a police cart by Raphael after being kissed for the first time. Obviously, I needed to read on. Both of the characters we met before, as side characters who were being set up for their own story, and I think that was really helpful, really. We know of Mercy as the brash twin, who has all the oomph and fire, in comparison to the shy and retiring Felicity. But, we also see her caring side here, and the way she loves, and loves hard, for the people she cares for - including Raphael. They were a fantastic couple, doomed to failure, but who had the strength to fight for more, and the epilogue showed this off perfectly. For Raphael, he never wanted to be in the position he is, but his father groomed him and older brother Gabriel to take over control of the group. He has a a plan to get them out - one way or another - and if to do that he has to set London ablaze, well so be it. I think this book has also set the scene for Felicity and Gabriel's story, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
