From Duke Till Dawn
Series: The London Underground #1
Author: Eva Leigh
Published July 26th 2018 by Mills & Boon
Goodreads Synopsis
Eva Leigh launches a seductive new series that sizzles with the dark secrets of London’s underworld...
Years ago, the Duke of Greyland gave his heart—and a princely sum of money—to a charming, destitute widow with unparalleled beauty. After one passionate night, she slipped from his bed and vanished without a trace. And just when he’s given up hope of ever seeing her again, Greyland finds her managing a gaming hell. He’s desperate to have her… until he discovers everything about his long-lost lover was a lie.
In truth, Cassandra Blake grew up on the streets, picking pockets to survive. Greyland was a mark—to be fleeced and forgotten—but her feelings for the duke became all too real. Once he learns of her deception, however, the heat in his eyes turns to ice. When her business partner absconds with the gaming hell proceeds—leaving unsavory investors out for blood—Cassandra must beg the man she betrayed for help.
Greyland wants compensation, too, and he’ll assist her under one condition: she doesn’t leave his sight until her debts are paid. But it’s not long before the real Cassandra—the smart, streetwise criminal—is stealing his heart all over again.

Review
After meeting the beautiful widow, Cassandra, in Cheltenham a few years ago, Alex, the Duke of Greyland, has never forgot her. He was recently engaged, but when his young bride ran off with an officer, he's trying to hide from society rather than face the embarrassment of it all. His friends decide to take him to the newly founded gaming hell, that will only be around for 1 month, and low and behold, who else is there but Cassandra. Alex is overjoyed to see her again, but when he realises he was swindled by her, he wants his revenge. Cassandra has never forgot Alex, either, and this will be her last scam before she leaves and tries to live a good life. However, when her mentor and father figure, Martin Hughes, runs off with the cash and leaves her to fend for herself against all those who have lost money, Cassandra has no one to turn to except Alex. Alex will help her, but for a cost, and until they find Hughes and recover the cash, Cassandra is not leaving his side.
Like all of Eva's books, this was one that hooked you from the get go, and was full of lovable characters. Both Cassandra and Alex had their faults - no one's perfect, after all - but they want to be able to grow and change that. Throughout the course of the book, from meeting again, overcoming their hurt, and rediscovering past feelings, we see a true growth in the couple, both alone, and together. Their chemistry is wholly undeniable, and the various flashbacks to their first meeting made the romance so much more believable, and visceral.
The sordid underbelly of London is definitely explored in this book, and made me think a lot of Sarah MacLean's Bareknuckle Bastard series. I do hope that is looked at more in the future books, especially with Amina's story being told in the final one. Yet again, Eva has knocked it out of the park, and I will buy any book she writes because her stories are wonderful!
