Thief of the Ton
Series: Misfits of the Ton #3
Author: Emily Royal
Published December 14th 2023 by Dragonblade Publishing, Inc.
Goodreads Synopsis
Old sins cast long shadows when hearts are at stake.
It’s been fourteen years since Lavinia de Grande was evicted from her childhood home after her father lost his fortune.
On entering her first Season courtesy of a cousin’s charity, Lavinia vows to wreak vengeance on Earl Walton, the villain who orchestrated their ruination. Not even an alluring viscount—whose masterful touch and fiery kisses set her senses ablaze—will distract her from her plan to retrieve the family heirlooms lost at Walton’s hands, by fair means or foul.
Peregrine, Viscount Marlow, has been tasked with solving a mystery. A thief known as ‘the Phoenix’ is targeting the ton and stealing seemingly unconnected treasures from different houses. During his investigation, Peregrine is distracted by the daughter of an impoverished viscount—a young woman unlike other debutantes, with a mind of her own and a body ripe for claiming.
As Peregrine draws closer to his quarry, he unearths a secret that links the Phoenix to his own father, and Lavinia, who is falling for her would-be captor, soon learns that what began as a game, might cost her liberty—or even her life.

Review
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
Lavinia de Grande can never forget the boy who promised to protect her - her Arthur - even if 14 years have passed, and she's no longer living in a country estate, but rather in small cottage after her father lost his fortune. She hasn't seen him since, but that's about to change. You see, Lavinia has been secretly retaking items that belonged to her family from those that stole them, and she's pretty good at it. Known only as the 'Phoenix', she starts to make mistakes when she re-enters society at the charity of her cousin. Coming face to face with Peregrine, Viscount Marlow, the man tasked with discovering who the Phoenix is, she is transported back to her childhood. But will Peregrine remember her, and can she let him into her heart, and into the truth?
I think this one might've been my favourite of the series. A play on the Robin Hood legend, Lavinia stole from the rich to give to the poor - her father. She only took what was rightfully theirs, but Peregrine was starting to connect the items and victims together and it was becoming risky. I liked the way they reconnected, and though it was a little bit of instalove, their memories of childhood did help to form their relationship. A compelling story from start to finish.
