Goodreads Synopsis
The breathtaking start to a seductive high-fantasy from New York Times bestselling author of Throne of Glass series.

Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price.

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Review
OMG, so unbelievably amazing! Even better than the Throne of Glass series (and that's saying something!) 5 gazillion stars.

In A Court Of Thorns And Roses we dive into a new fantasy world starring Feyre, a human, who is taken across the Wall into the faerie lands for murdering a faerie whilst hunting. Whilst in the 'care' of Tamlin she learns more about the faeries, and about the dangers being posed to her entire world.

Sarah J Maas has literally blown the fantasy genre out of the water here. I seriously thought there would be no way to top her Throne of Glass series, and somehow, she managed to with ACOTAR. The world of Prythian is so dense and intricate - and the fact it reminds me so much of the UK and Ireland is wonderful - and the perfect setting for a new fantasy series.

The characters were all so complex, and I especially liked the brOTP relationship between Feyre, Tamlin, and Lucien, who are all, by far, my favourite characters within the series. There were some characters, namely Rhysand and Nesta, whom I felt grew as the story advanced - actually all the characters had wonderful character development - and I enjoyed being proved wrong about my first impressions. One character I completed detested was 'her' (I won't tell you her name or who she was - spoilers), and she further proved that Sarah is an utter genius and fantastic author!

I know I speak a lot about romantic relationships in books, and the Feyre/Tamlin ship has sailed here. A brand new OTP! I know there were some events which caused some splits in early readers, but I personally felt as if these 'events' were blown out of proportions by some reviewers, and they didn't really bother me much.

The last third or so of ACOTAR was fast paced, and I couldn't put the book down, for fear of missing something important and crucial. The ending was a beautiful conclusion to series starter, and I can't wait to see how the issues which arose here are dealt with in later instalments. An utterly perfect and beautiful new series, for an amazing author goddess, and I would definitely recommend this to everyone!

  1. Ahh, so glad you ended up enjoying this, Sophie! ^_^ I wasn't a Throne of Glass fan, but ACOTAR was definitely a lot better! The world building, in particular, was amazing. Loved the Tamlin/Fayre/Lucien trio as well! <3
